Here is the list of the cards. I'll add photos soon, but I've described the writing where I could.
All the cards with additional writing besides the corner writing are listed first, while all the rest are organized by suit. The slashed-through Operator symbol he's been using, I'll refer to as the "benefactor symbol" below.
JOKERS
The two Joker cards have the following:
- When laid side by side, they form a message on both the front and back.
- Rear Message: I WANT TO PLAY A GAME DOCTOR IF YOU WANT TO PLAY...
- Front Message: BET YOUR LIFE (with the benefactor symbol split between the two cards)
- On both cards the O in Joker has been altered to an Operator symbol.
ACES
- ACE OF CLUBS
- Corner Text - 52
- Written on the card, split between the two halves: The moment man devoured the fruit of knowledge, he sealed his fate. Entrusting his future to the cards, man clings to a dim hope.
- The Final Boss of the video game Persona 3 said this exact line, though I'm not sure why he'd reference it. Of course, this isn't the first reference to Japanese pop-culture he's made.
- ACE OF SPADES
- Corner Text - 4D
- On both ends, "rk" has been added to the A to spell "Ark", but then a line is drawn through them.
- The brand name of the cards was written across the center of the spade, but it's been blacked out, and a benefactor symbol was drawn around the spade
ACE OF HEARTS
- Corner Text - 53
- Another benefactor symbol is drawn over the heart.
- Laughter is written all over the card: HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
ACE OF DIAMONDS
- Corner Text - 4E
- Words are used to create the lines in another benefactor symbol. The phrases are repeated twice in each direction to create radial symmetry. The diamond has a "?" in it, which I guess is the punctuation for all the phrases.
- "Am I Alive" - (The A in Am is the printed red A of the card)
- "Who"
- "Why does it kill"
THE KINGS
- Both faces of all four King cards have been erased with either while paint or white out. Aside from that, each only contains corner text.
- King of Clubs - 49
- King of Spades - 44
- King of Hearts - 54
- King of Diamonds - 4D
The rest of the cards contain only corner text.

Looks like HEX. Ran it through a translator, and this is what I got:

Erm. Not sure how to proceed from here. They look a bit like Caesarian shifts, but with so many doubled and tripled letters I'm doubtful.
I can also begin to pick out some words in the jumbled letters ... anagrams, maybe? I don't know. I'm shooting in the dark right now.
- Quetz
Hey Quetz, thanks for the hex translation, I'll see if I can pick out anything from there.
ReplyDeleteInteresting. I'll also lend my talents to this.
ReplyDeleteRemember that the aces and kings can go at the beginning and the end of their suits as well. So spades could be THNDTCROSLHES, or even STHNDTCROSLHE. (Assuming aces are high.)
ReplyDeleteIt could even be that we're supposed to view the deck as a whole, which gives us at least another ten possibilities. Roting it gives me nothing but more gibberish ... hmm. Maybe it's keyed? Or maybe we're doing it wrong.
I agree with Quetz, It looks like Hex. As for the shifts, it might be all of them together. *cracks knuckles* Time to get to work.
ReplyDeleteThis is what I got from using the caesar shift to decipher it:

(Sorry Grey, I beat you to it. -BF)
@Xand: O_O My....God. Also darn it.
ReplyDeleteAce of hearts (Hahahaha) could be a reference to Durarara!!
ReplyDeleteBecause, this one part has to do with love, an emotion that's died in some girl. And every time someone connected to that girl's sword said something they would start 'laughing' a lot.
Maybe.
Have you considered linking cartomancy to the interpretation? Maybe you are meant to read the cards as in tarot? There are various spreads which can be used in that case, though I couldn't say which would be most appropriate.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry. Codes are not my forte. I'm more of a digging through historical archives kind of girl.
Dr. Cairo, what order were the cards in when you got them? that might help with decoding them.
ReplyDelete@Xand
ReplyDeleteWhoa. oo; Thanks for that.
Agreeing with anon on this one.
Dr. Cairo, do you remember/still have the cards in the order you got them in?
Doc, I got it.
ReplyDeleteI figured out the message in the cards.
The clues were in the favorited videos.
The first clue was that he favorited How to Play Solitaire. That shows the messages would be revealed by organizing the cards in a solitaire fashion.
The second clue was that he favorite the song "All The Right Moves" by One Republic. The line in the song was "They'll be the King of Hearts, and you're the Queen of Spades." That meant that the hearts would go with the spades, and therefore the diamonds would go with the clubs.
After tedious writing on my own cards and organizing, I finally got the message, and I was a little bit disturbed.
"The Doctor Lies. Do Not Trust Him. More Infection, Increased Fear."
Do you understand what he means? Or perhaps, is it a warning that we can't believe what you say?
-Lucien
Shit, Lucien. The Benefactor has noticed you...
ReplyDeleteShit. I haven't been around for a while, but it looks like things got worse for the Doctor since I left. The message Lucien decoded makes me think that the good doctor is hiding something....but we all do in this situation. I'm sure he'll share when he realizes it can hurt others.
ReplyDeleteYeah, i reccomend [sorry if it's spelled wrong] going to a public library or something to read the disc.
